We had a nice weekend with Saturday being more of a family day. We had lunch in a Chinese restaurant in Camareo (There are multi-million dollars homes there now. Who new? In high school, it was the town to make fun of because of Camereo State Hospital...a mental institution. It was also even further from LA) The chef at the restaurant was great the last time we were there. My parents sort of made friends with him. For this meal, my parents pre-ordered a lot of dishes that are not on the menu. I think the chef was really happy to have people who appreciate real Chinese food. He also said my dad reminds him of his dad.
Sunday we were invited to a BBQ by of Kim's golf friends. This guys is about to go on a four month vacation all over Asia. Says, he wants to do it before he gets married and have kids. Smart guy. It was very sweet that his parents were at this party as well. There was all kinds of food. The only thing was that it rained a little bit so people were going in and out of the house. Football was on so conversation wasn't as abundant. Kim won a challenge of indoor putting golf. Thank goodness or he'd have to do some shots. I don't think the host needed any urging to down some shots anyway. Can you imagine drinking like that in front of your parents?
Monday night was also great. We went to see Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins) at the Egyptian theatre in Hollywood. We saw Nolan's first feature which he made for $12,000. It was b/w and played non-linearly. Very good storyline. He talked about making a movie with no budget. There was a weirdo that approached him right after he gave an introduction to his movie. I explained to Kim that there are a lot of disgruntled writers and directors out here. (not to mention actors) After the viewing, the first two questions were from people who wanted to give him a copy of their films. Well, we were lucky as there was no traffic there or back yesterday. We got home in twenty minutes. That never happens.
